360-degree video content provides a rich and immersive multimedia experience to viewers by allowing viewers to the video from any angle. However, 360-degree videos require much higher bandwidth to be delivered over mobile networks compared to conventional videos. Multicasting of the videos is one of the solutions to efficiently utilize the limited bandwidth since many viewers share the wireless spectrum resource for popular videos, such as sports events or musical concerts. LTE eMBMS assigns the videos to the video sessions, and multiple viewers can subscribe to the same video allocated to the video sessions. Moreover, the tiling of the 360-degree video makes it possible to control the regional quality of the video. The tiles that are likely to be seen by many viewers should have higher quality than other tiles to satisfy more viewers. In this paper, we proposed the Multi-Session Multicast (MSM) system to optimally allocate the wireless resources to tiles with different qualities to maximize the expected user experience. The experimental results show that the proposed MSM system provides higher quality videos to viewers using limited wireless resources.

Despite the recent advances in broadband penetration and accessibility, broadcasting networks continue to be the most efficient way for delivering media content to large areas independently of the user density. Nevertheless, a convergence of broadcasting services into the broadband networks is foreseen. In this context, Layered Division Multiplexing (LDM) allows the joint provision of unicast, multicast, and broadcast services in mobile cells infrastructure. Despite the success of LDM in broadcasting infrastructure, its practical application in Long Term Evolution networks providing Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (LTE eMBMS) and 5G-MBMS is more difficult. In this paper, we experimentally quantify the cellinterference and its impact on the network performance and Quality of Service. Our experiments reveal that the inter-cell interference margin for LTE eMBMS is about 3 dB higher compared to traditional LTE networks. If a layered architecture is incorporated this higher inter-cell interference would cause a reduction of approximately 19% of the Enhanced Layer (Lower Layer) coverage.

When deciding where to place access points in a wireless network, it is useful to model the signal propagation loss between a proposed antenna location and the areas it may cover. The indoor dominant path (IDP) model, introduced by Wölfle et al., is shown in the literature to have good validation and generalization error, is faster to compute than competing methods, and is used in commercial software such as WinProp, iBwave Design, and CellTrace. Previously, the algorithms known for computing it involved a worst-case exponential-time tree search, with pruning heuristics to speed it up.We prove that the IDP model can be reduced to a parametric shortest path computation on a graph derived from the walls in the floorplan. It therefore admits a quasipolynomial-time (i.e., n O (log n) ) algorithm. We also give a practical approximation algorithm based on running a small constant number of shortest path computations.Its provable worst-case additive error (in dB) can be made arbitrarily small via appropriate choices of parameters, and is well below 1dB for reasonable choices. We evaluate our approximation algorithm empirically against the exact IDP model, and show that it consistently beats its theoretical worst-case bounds, solving the model exactly (i.e., no error) in the vast majority of cases.
