Field Trial of a Novel Self-Reciprocating Hydraulic Pump for Deliquification

Abstract: Summary A novel hydraulically powered, self-reciprocating valve pump (SRVP) was piloted in a western Colorado gas well for deliquification operations. The objective was to pump liquids from a deep gas well and later retrieve and redeploy the SRVP without a workover rig. This paper will describe the SRVP technology, areas of applicability, and pilot program, including the completion design, deployment/retrieval workovers, performance, teardowns, learnings, and future plans. Gas-pro… Show more

“…As a common power source, RPP uses the reciprocating movement of the plunger to periodically change the volume of the working chamber to transport fluid; now, it has become an indispensable part in many fields, such as automobiles and construction machinery [18,19]. The conventional RPP mostly uses one-way valves or solenoid valves for flow distribution [20][21][22]. The one-way valve has hysteresis when opening and closing; especially at high speed, the hysteresis of the one-way valve is more serious, which leads to lower VE of the pump.…”

“…For its solution, special studies are carried out [4,5,6,7] and various technologies are used, such as compression, velocity tubing, plunger lift, gas lift, rod pump, electric centrifugal pump, etc. [8,9,10,11,12]. The generalized analysis of the experience of using various deliquification technologies in several thousand wells [13] shows that the use of foaming agent injection technology requires the lowest capital investment (up to $ 10,000) and provides a good increase in gas production (up to 9,360 Mcf/well⋅year).…”
