Field testing of new unattended small size seismic module for various target detection

Abstract: General Sensing Systems (GSS) has achieved outstanding and verifiable results in the design and performance of seismic systems with near zero false alarm rates for the detection of walking and running persons. These results were realized in a number of detection systems and in particular in small size seismic detection modules. Preliminary testing of these seismic modules in various environment noise conditions shows that such small unattended modules can be successfully used for other target detection. Potent… Show more

“…If the activity caused by personnel walking within the monitoring area is detected as digging behavior, then a false alarm will result. Moreover, if a person walks in the monitoring area while underground excavation is taking place, the system may determine that a person is simply walking in the monitoring area, which could cause a missed alarm [16], [17].…”

“…The research focus is now shifted from detection of surface sources to estimating the bearing angle of the detected sources. Bearing estimation is an important attribute of outdoor surveillance systems since it provides source localization and tracking capabilities [11,104,105]. Most of these security systems utilize multiple geophones and achieve localization either by evaluating the signal energy to determine the vicinity of the source to a particular sensor node [106] or by evaluating the time-difference-of-arrival between the sensors [11].…”
