Field Test of Electrical Heating With Horizontal And Vertical Wells

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to report on the field test results of the Texaco Canada Petroleum Inc. (TEXCAN) and the Alberta Department of Energy (ADOE, formally AOSTRA), Electrical Horizontal Well Project in the Lloydminster heavy oil area. Two vertical wells (15D-25-56-2W4 and 13C-30-56-1W4) and one horizontal well (16D-25-56-2W4) were connected electrically and heated. 48Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology FIGURE 3: A conceptual representation of the electrical heating system for heating a combination… Show more

“…The mechanism of electrical heating generally is divided into two types, electrical heating for vertical well and horizontal well using a thermal process either to heat steam chamber or direct heating into the near-wellbore of vertical well and horizontal well [13]- [16]. Electrical heating is also using the SAGD process heating the formation by gravity drainage [17], [18].…”

Electrical heating also applied the SAGD process heating the formation by gravity drainage (Yongbin et al, 2017;Yuan et al, 2004).…”

“…Numerous field tests of electrical heating have been reported in the literature (2)(3)(4)(5)(6) . The results are consistent: significant stimulated production rates were attained, but long-term heating could not be achieved due to shortcomings in operational strategies and failures in the oil production system.…”
