Field Statistics in Nested Reverberation Chambers

Abstract: The electric field in nested reverberation chambers is Rayleigh distributed. Positioning an antenna in each of two nested reverberation chambers, the transmission amplitude coefficient between the two antennas is double Rayleigh distributed.Index Terms-Apertures, electromagnetic coupling, electromagnetic probability theory, reverberation chambers, shielding measurements.N ESTED reverberation chambers are two (or more) reverberation chambers connected by at least one aperture. They are often used to measure pro… Show more

“…It is important to point out that the fluctuations of input current at a cavity beyond a bottleneck can no longer be considered Gaussian. The latter aspect is known from cavity systems studied in electromagnetic compatibility, see for example the deviation of the received power in a weakly coupled nested reverberation chamber [51]. In Appendix C, arguments are developed to quantify these deviations for cavity cascade systems.…”

“…Such an MU can be obtained both with FS and with no FS. Moreover, the distribution of ILs between two chambers can be easily achieved in our case as the RCs are coupled by a large aperture [38][39][40][41]; when the sample is present in the aperture, it can be considered equivalent to a case of many apertures as shown in [38]. In this paper, the uncertainty for proposed models of SE is not calculated for brevity.…”

“…Since an RC is a statistical environment, physical quantities should be analysed using statistical methods. Existing literature has included statistical analyses of Q factors [13,14], impedance mismatch [15], phase [16], fields in nested RCs [17], and level crossing excursions [18]. The uncertainty of the threeantenna method in an anechoic chamber (gain measurement) [19][20][21] and in an RC (efficiency measurement) [10] has been estimated numerically using the error propagation method.…”
