Field‐programmable gate array‐based laboratory oriented to control theory courses

Abstract: This article presents a methodology to improve the performance of learning of students in the major of Automation Engineering, through the development of a multidisciplinary project that involves the use of contemporary technological tools and knowledge of previous subjects. It is sought to add in their educational training, theory and practice for the student, learning, new knowledge, and skills within their training as an engineer. Despite advances in teaching methods and the inclusion of contemporary tools … Show more

“…It is mainly used in robotics education, scientific research, and small industrial automation production lines. The DH analysis of the robotic arm is established using the modified DH method and to solve the forward kinematics. For the inverse kinematics problem of the robotic arm, the first three axes are solved by the geometric method.…”

“…Since the control hardware used in the desktop robotic arm is usually a single‐chip microcomputer, its performance is not as good as that of a professional robot controller, and its kinematics solution method needs to be more simple and more feasible. The methods used in industrial robotic arms are mainly iterative methods and analytical methods , but these two methods have a large amount of computation and require a fast processor to calculate, which is not suitable for the desktop robotic arm. The simple geometric solution is only applicable to the robotic arms with fewer degrees of freedom .…”

“…The PID controller is commonly used in several industrial processes and it is presented in Equation ( 17 ). A big disadvantage of this algorithms consist in the computing of the controller gains [ 37 , 38 ]. Figure 3 depicts the methodology proposed to compute the PID controller gains while using a fuzzy logic system.…”

“…Pedagogy for the projectbased courses may adopt multi-case approach to cover the subjects' breadth and depth by collaboration on all cases and deep learning on individual cases [43]. For the interdisciplinary fields a live creative environment should be simulated by the close cooperation of multiple departments [44,45]. For the professional skills, extracurricular courses may be designed using multiple instructional formats such as workshops, presentations, experiential learning from the industry leaders, among others [24].…”
