Field‐Portable Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Portable gas chromatograph–mass spectrometer (GC‐MS) systems are currently used in the field for the analysis of both volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs). Detection, identification, and quantitative analysis of these chemicals are performed using this technology so that scene assessment and remediation may occur. Although originally designed and deployed to meet the needs of the environmental‐analysis community, the use of field‐portable GC‐MS systems has extended to ot… Show more

“…The PerkinElmer system uses observed retention time when searching data against their proprietary onboard target library. This proprietary library contains mass fragmentation and GC retention-time data from GC-data collected using TA B L E 3 Comparison of technical specifications of portable GC-MS systems [145][146][147].…”

“…In addition, they have a high potential for differentiating individual substances. The different GC-MS solutions on the market differ in the performance of the gas and steam analysers [100,101]. The main assumption of portable gas chromatograph manufacturers is to create a small-sized device with detection capabilities comparable to laboratory chromatography.…”
