Field-Insensitive Heavy Fermion Features and Phase Transition in the Caged--StructureQuasi-Skutterudite Sm 3Ru4Ge13. -The title compound (obtained by arc-melting of the elements followed by annealing at 900 C for 7 d) is characterized by powder XRD, magnetization, specific heat, resistivity, and thermal conductivity measurements. Its average crystal structure conforms to the space group Pm3n. The compound exhibits a magnetic phase transition at about 5 K. Sm 3Ru4Ge13 is identified as a low charge carrier density system with unusual field-insensitive heavy fermion features very similar to the filled skutterudites. -(NAIR*, H. S.; KUMAR, K.
