This paper presents a novel macro-element for vertical and batter pile groups. The numerical scheme is based on de-coupled, single pile response. Each pile consists of two separate load-displacement formulations (axial and transverse) that take a displacement increment as input and return a diagonal tangent stiffness value. The effect of rotation is implicitly incorporated in the transverse load-displacement formulation. The presented macro-element does not require pre-defined failure surfaces or other parameters, and is therefore not restricted to a specific foundation configuration, soil profile or soil type. The macro-element may be calibrated using any type of non-linear pile-soil model.The developed macro-element is validated using rigorous numerical models for a variety of configurations.

A comprehensive review of destructive testing techniques to understand concrete behavior is presented in this work. The main objective of this article is to summarize the literature from the last three decades related to the following topics: 1) the size effect in plain and reinforced concrete, 2) the crack estimation and propagation in concrete under various loading conditions, 3) the determination of material properties of concrete using triaxial testing techniques, 4) the behavior of concrete under creep and early age shrinkage which eventually affect the properties of concrete and lastly 5) the strain rate effect in concrete using various experimental techniques such as Split Hopkinson pressure bar, impact loading, drop hammer and the literature related to cyclic loading on concrete. The scope of the presented work is limited to destructive testing related to the topics defined above. To completely understand the behavior of material, at least three aspects must be required: the material’s theoretical basics, experimental validation, and numerical implementation. The authors presented the review articles related to theoretical basics and numerical implementation in parts I and II of this article. The presented work is part III, which is related to experimental work. In the upcoming section, the research related to specific topics is presented, and a summary is provided at the end of each section. Finally, the future works and the research directions are shown in the conclusion section.

In order to study the cumulative damage and failure characteristics of long spiral belled pile under horizontal cyclic loading of offshore wind and waves, a series of indoor experiments on single piles under horizontal cyclic load were carried out. The cycle times as well as load amplitude at the same frequency were considered during the horizontal pseudo-static cyclic tests. On the basis of the distribution of pile deflection, bending moment, and Earth pressure around the pile, the pile-soil interaction was comprehensively discussed. The cumulative energy dissipation characteristics were introduced to describe the damage of test piles. Meanwhile, the effects of load amplitude and cycle times on the cumulative damage of long spiral belled piles were discussed. A power function model for energy dissipation coefficient prediction under multi-stage cyclic load was proposed. The results show that the horizontal peak bearing capacity of long spiral belled pile is increased by 57.2% and 40.4%, respectively, as compared with the straight pile and belled pile under the same conditions. The horizontal displacement mainly occurs at the upper part of the pile. Under the condition of limited cyclic times, the load amplitude has more significant effect on the bearing characteristics of the long spiral belled pile. In contrast to the straight pile and belled pile, the long spiral belled pile has better energy dissipation capacity, and the rank of the energy dissipation capacity of these three piles is long spiral belled pile > belled pile > straight pile. The power function model can well reflect the cumulative damage characteristics of long spiral belled pile under horizontal cyclic loading, and there is a good linear relationship between power function model parameters and load amplitude. The energy dissipation coefficient of long spiral belled pile with diverse cycle times at different mechanical stages of test pile is analysed. Then, the recommended power function model parameters according to different failure stages are proposed. The verification example indicates that the prediction results are close to the measured values with a calculation error of 22%. The prediction model can provide a certain reference for the application of long spiral belled pile in marine structures.
