Field-circuit analysis and measurements of a single-phase self-excited induction generator

Abstract: Abstract:The paper deals with a single-phase induction machine operating as a stand-alone self-excited singlephase induction generator for generation of electrical energy from renewable energy sources. By changing number of turns and size of wires in the auxiliary stator winding, an improvement of performance characteristics of the generator were obtained as regards no-load and load voltage of the stator windings as well as stator winding currents of the generator. Field-circuit simulation models of the genera… Show more

“…in air, iron core and shaft characteristic was approximated on the basis of no-load test of the induction machine. The block diagram of laboratory set-up for measuring output characteristics of the generator was described in the paper [3]. The generator configuration for excitation (30 μF) and shunt (15 μF) capacitors operating under resistive load has been analysed, of which electric circuit diagram is presented in Fig.…”

“…It was assumed for the analysis that the capacitances are constant. By connecting a shunt capacitor C sh to the main stator winding, the self-excitation is partially shifted to that stator winding and thereby the auxiliary winding current of the generator may be reduced [3].…”

“…The SAS system utilises the self-excitation effect. However, it is rarely desirable due to the possibility of destroying the component being tested, but sometimes used in nanoscale measurement systems [ 26 , 27 , 28 ]. This system has been successfully applied in civil engineering [ 29 , 30 ], measurement of metallic structures [ 31 , 32 ], mining [ 33 ], ceramic, and concrete structures [ 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 ].…”
