Abstract:Characidium cacah é endêmica do Brasil, descrita da drenagem do rio Cipó, um afluente da sub-bacia do rio das Velhas, na bacia do rio São Francisco, no estado de Minas Gerais. Embora apresente distribuição restrita, é encontrada no Parque Nacional da Serra do Cipó, onde é frequente e abundante, principalmente nas lagoas. Até o momento, como não foram encontradas ameaças diretas que comprometam a sua população, Characidium cacah foi categorizada como Menos Preocupante (LC).
