Aims: This study aims to document the age, sex and site distribution of fibrous dysplasia in our tertiary health care facility in order to compare our findings with published literature. Study Design: This is a hospital-based retrospective and descriptive study extending from 1st January 2005 to 31st December 2019. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Histopathology, Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Plateau State in North-Central Nigeria between 1st January 2005 to 31st December 2019. Materials and Methods: Materials consisted of Archival slides, paraffin wax tissue blocks, surgical pathology register and case files of all cases of fibrous dysplasia diagnosed histologically during the period of review. The age, sex and site affected by the tumour were documented for each case using both electronic and hard copy records. The histology slides were examined to confirm the diagnosis. A total of 165 primary bone tumours (103 benign and 63 malignant) were recorded during the period of review, of which 28 were fibrous dysplasia. Results: There were 28 cases of fibrous dysplasia which represented 17% of the primary bone tumours and 27% of the benign bone tumours. A half (50%) of the cases occurred in the second decade and 82.1% of cases were diagnosed in craniofacial bones. There was no sex bias in diagnosis. Conclusion: Fibrous dysplasia is a relatively common bone tumour in our environment. The sex distribution, age at diagnosis, and bones affected is in keeping with findings by authors from other parts of the world.

Фиброзная дисплазия (ФД) – это медленно прогрессирующее доброкачественное заболевание костной ткани неизвестной этиологии, неопределенного патогенеза и разнообразной гистопатологической картины, при котором поражается 1 или несколько костей. ФД чаще поражает кости черепа, длинные кости и ребра. Поражение височной кости при фиброзной дисплазии наблюдается реже и обычно бывает односторонним.Клинически ФД височной кости (ВК) характеризуется деформацией пораженной области, стенозом наружного канала, головной болью, прогрессирующей кондуктивной и/или нейросенсорной тугоухостью, шумом в ушах, в некоторых случаях головокружением с тошнотой и рвотой. Диагностика ФД проводится по данным клинических, рентгенологических, гистологических и генетических исследований. Оптимального лечения фиброзной дисплазии не существует, оно зависит от многих факторов. Хирургическое лечение проводится в объеме частичной резекции патологической ткани, каналопластики, мастоидэктомии, радикальной операции на среднем ухе, закрытой санирующей операции, тимпанопластики. Fibrous dysplasia is a slowly progressing benign bony disease of unknown etiology, uncertain pathogenesis and a diverse histopathological picture, in which one or more bones are affected. Fibrous dysplasia more often affects the bones of the skull, tubular bones and ribs. The lesion of the temporal bone with Fibrous dysplasia is observed less often and is usually unilateral.Clinically, fibrous dysplasia of temporal bone is characterized by deformity of the affected area, stenosis of the external auditory canal, headache, progressive conductive and/ or sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, in some cases – dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Diagnosis of fibrous dysplasia is carried out according to clinical, radiological, histological and genetic examination. There is no optimal treatment for fibrous dysplasia, it depends on many factors. In some cases surgical treatment is carried out: partial resection of pathological tissue, canaloplasty, canal wall up or canal wall down mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty.

Introdução: A displasia fibrosa monostótica envolvendo a região maxilo-facial é mais frequente na maxila, podendo ocorrer em outros ossos. Na maioria dos casos, a condição é assintomática e tem um crescimento lento, com evolução autolimitada, associada à maturação esquelética. O tratamento cirúrgico conservador é a conduta de eleição, sempre que possível. Objetivo e relato do caso: O artigo tem por objetivo apresentar o relato de um caso clínico de paciente jovem, com diagnóstico de displasia fibrosa monostótica zigomática-maxilar. O tratamento proposto foi a ressecção da lesão e reconstrução imediata do defeito com enxerto ósseo bovino liofilizado. O enxerto foi mantido com microplaca e parafusos de titânio. O paciente permaneceu em controle clínico e imaginológico sem evidências de recidiva no período pós-operatório de seis anos. Considerações finais: Na reconstrução imediata, o enxerto ósseo bovino liofilizado atuou como arcabouço osteocondutor e favoreceu a recuperação volumétrica da área, proporcionando suporte para reorganização do defeito ósseo.
