Fibronectin 1: A Potential Biomarker for Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Object. Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers among females with high mortality rate, due to most patients diagnosed at the advanced stage of the disease. Seeking new biomarkers for ovarian cancer detection and progress indication is really important for the patients. Methods. OVCAR3 and A2780 are the two common cell lines that are used for ovarian cancer studies. The different invasion and migration abilities were observed by scratch tests and transwell experiments in our preliminary study. Gene ch… Show more

“…Cancer and mesothelial cells secrete collagen, hyaluronan, and fibronectin (FN) ( 4 , 5 , 6 ) that serve as physical scaffolds for the interaction with specific adhesion molecules, such as integrins, selectins, and proteoglycans ( 7 , 8 ). FN has been identified as major glycoprotein secreted in OC cells and in the submesothelial basement membrane ( 5 , 9 ). Its aberrant expression has been correlated with tumor stage and poor prognosis in ovarian tumors ( 5 , 10 ).…”

“…On the other hand, the disruptions of the structure or function of fibronectin can lead to remarkable changes in ECM organization and result in a number of disorders in organisms, including cancer [ 23 ]. The increased expression of FN1 gene has been reported in many types of cancer, including gastric [ 24 ], breast [ 25 ], thyroid [ 26 ], renal [ 27 ] and ovarian [ 28 ] cancers. Furthermore, in many cases, the up-regulation of FN1 indicates a poor prognosis for patients [ 24 , 26 , 28 ].…”

The elevated expression level of fibronectin 1 is strongly related to modifications of extracellular space, and it contributes and promotes the spread, migration, proliferation and differentiation of cells [ 29 ].…”

“…Our PPI network has identi ed the key genes that are involved in the PDAC. Huijing Bao et al found that FN1 is a biomarker for ovarian cancer and FN1 expression levels were strongly correlated with the progression of ovarian cancers 21 . Yan Liu et al found that the MicroRNA-374b can repress the progression of breast cancer by mediating CCND1 gene 22 .…”
