Fiber Laser Welding of Dissimilar 2205/304 Stainless Steel Plates

Abstract: Abstract:In this study, an attempt on pulsed-fiber laser welding on an austenitic-duplex stainless steel butt joint configuration was investigated. The influence of various welding parameters, such as beam diameter, peak power, pulse repetition rate, and pulse width on the weld beads geometry was studied by checking the width and depth of the welds after each round of welding parameters combination. The weld bead dimensions and microstructural progression of the weld joints were observed microscopically. Final… Show more

“…The main disadvantage of EW is its use of thin sheets. Mohammed et al [29] studied the fiber laser welding of duplex stainless steel 2205 and austenitic stainless steel 304. From the SEM results, formation of micro-voids confirmed the ductile mode of fracture.…”

“…In this work, the 25 sample points were randomly divided into five groups, and each of them consists five sample points. The order of groups was G k = {(13, 23, 22, 2, 3) , (24,18,16,6,21), (20,12,5,10,9), (11,7,1,4,14), (25,8,19,17,15)}, where the number corresponded to the No. in Table 2.…”

“…As intelligent manufacturing develops, accurate predicting of weld bead is becoming crucial to accomplishing industrial automation [1,2]. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the relationships between the laser keyhole welding process parameters (WPP) and weld bead geometry to predict the weld bead quality [3][4][5]. However, the relationship between the WPP and the weld bead is highly nonlinear [6].…”

“…However, among the various austenitic consumables, the most beneficial, both in terms of strength properties, as well as morphology and corrosion resistance, is the use of 309L [ 47 , 48 ] or super austenitic 904L filler metal [ 49 ]. The literature also describes attempts to weld such a material combination without filler material: using different variants of the TIG process [ 50 , 51 ] or concentrated welding sources [ 33 , 52 , 53 ]. Ridha Mohammed et al stated that the mechanical properties of the duplex-austenitic steel fiber laser joints were better compared with the base materials (BM) because of the small HAZ [ 52 ].…”

In the same work, the authors found the presence in welded joints the regions with a completely austenitic solidification mode which were susceptible to solidification cracking.…”
