Fett-/Wassertrennung im Kernspintomogramm

Abstract: We examined 410 patients with lumbar disc degeneration. In 23% fat suppressing IR sequences and phase contrast techniques displayed marrow reactions in subchondral bone adjacent to the affected discs. Only in some cases conventional MRI sequences were able to depict these marrow reactions. CT, plain X-ray and scintigraphy did not show marrow changes. Bacterial infection was excluded. Histological analysis showed substitution of haematopoietic marrow by fatty tissue, necrobiosis and increase in mucoid extracell… Show more

“…The parameters b 1 , b 2 , b 3 give the velocity (in mm/min) of height change in the initial instant of phases 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The parameters d 1 , d 2 and d 3 give particular height differences (in mm) at distinct instants: d 1 gives the height difference between the phase-2 curve and the extrapolated phase-1 curve at the end of phase 2. d 3 gives the 'net height deficit' of the phase-3 curve to the extrapolated curve of phase 1 at the end of phase 3. For the same instant, d 2 gives the difference between the phase-3 curve and the extrapolated curve of phase 2.…”

“…The water content of the disc was measured on T2-weighted images with a special inversion-recovery sequence (Ir 1400/400/23) [3]. In these images desiccation and degeneration of the discs are associated with a loss of signal.…”

“…24,25 MC are non-neoplastic subchondral bone marrow changes within the vertebral body and endplates visible on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). [26][27][28][29] First described by Assheuer, 26 de Roos, 27 and Modic et al 28 MC are now classified into 3 types-Modic changes type 1-3 (MC-1/MC-2/MC-3see Figure 1). 29 MC in the low back, are found in 5%-22% the background population.…”
