Ferroic multipolar order and disorder in cyanoelpasolite molecular perovskites

Abstract: We use a combination of variable-temperature high-resolution synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction measurements and Monte Carlo simulations to characterize the evolution of two different types of ferroic multipolar order in a series of cyanoelpasolite molecular perovskites. We show that ferroquadrupolar order in [C 3 N 2 H 5 ] 2 Show more

“…14 In addition each Gua + cation is disordered over four positions. Our single crystal diffraction measurements are consistent with both static and dynamic disorder, but the absence of any A-site order at 120K, well-below typical ordering temperatures for Gua + containing molecular perovskites, 38,39 suggests that this disorder is static.…”

“…Despite this inherent structural flexibility, coordination polymers whose framework topologies closely emulate that of the wellknown inorganic perovskites are receiving considerable attention at present, especially in the field of multiferroics. [7][8][9][10][11][12][13] In these cases empirical and semi-empirical structure-property relationships established for the inorganic counterparts might be used to anticipate the behavior of hybrid materials, hence accelerating their discovery and potential application.…”
