Ferrocene-Functionalized Dithiocarbamate Zinc(II) Complexes as Efficient Bifunctional Catalysts for the One-Pot Synthesis of Chromene and Imidazopyrimidine Derivatives via Knoevenagel Condensation Reaction

Abstract: Four new mononuclear/coordination polymeric (CP) zinc(II) complexes (1−4) of ferrocenyl/pyridyl-functionalized dithiocarbamate ligands, N-ferrocenylmethyl-N-butyl dithiocarbamate (L1), N-ferrocenylmethyl-N-ethylmorpholine dithiocarbamate (L2), N-ferrocenylmethyl-N-2-(diethylamino)ethylamine dithiocarbamate (L3), and N-4-methoxybenzyl-N-3-methylpyridyl dithiocarbamate (L4), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV−vis, and 1 H and 13 C{ 1 H} NMR spectroscopic techniques. The solid-s… Show more

“…For instance, catalyst 1 is much better than the resorcine[4]arene‐based two‐dimensional Zn(II) supramolecular catalyst (0.01 mmol/acetone/40 min/60 °C) which requires a higher temperature with a longer reaction time [22] . The catalytic efficiency of 1 is nearly comparable, except for the reaction time, with ferrocene‐factionalized dithiocarbamate zinc(II) catalysts (H 2 O/ 1 h/RT) [12] …”

“…Based on the previous literature, [2–4,11–18] a plausible catalytic mechanism for the Knoevenagel condensation reaction is illustrated in scheme 7. We presume that zinc(II) in 1 can act as a Lewis acidic site to lead to catalytic activities.…”
