Fermented blueberry juice extract and its specific fractions have an anti-adipogenic effect in 3 T3-L1 cells

Abstract: BackgroundObesity and Type 2 diabetes have reached epidemic status worldwide. Wild lowbush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium Aiton) is a plant of the North American Aboriginal traditional pharmacopeia with antidiabetic potential, especially when it is fermented with Serratia vaccinii.MethodsA phytochemical fractionation scheme was used to identify potential bioactive compounds as confirmed by HPLC retention times and UV–Vis spectra. 3 T3-L1 cells were differentiated for 7 days with either Normal Blueberry Ext… Show more

“…Studies show that anthocyanins possess anti-obesity activity through the regulation of adipocytes, including induction of cell cycle arrest, reduction of lipid accumulation by suppressing transcription factors expressions such as PPARγ, C/EBPα, C/EBPβ, C/EBPδ, and aP2, and promoting lipolysis [ 9 ]. Interestingly, anthocyanin-enriched extracts from fermented blueberry juice, cranberry, blue pea flower ( Clitoria ternatea ), and blueberry peel inhibits adipogenesis and lipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes via downregulation of adipogenic genes [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”

“…Interestingly, several substrates identified in this study, such as Cdc42 and mTOR, are known to be involved in trophoblast migration and invasion (Knöfler & Pollheimer, ; Liu, Li, Na, & Liu, ). Vaccinium phytochemicals have been shown in other cell systems to affect the phosphorylation of AMPK (Eid et al, ; Sánchez‐Villavicencio et al, ), and we are the first to report that V . angustifolium crude leaf extract and chlorogenic acid increase AMPK phosphorylation in EVT cells.…”

“…All values are presented as mean ± standard error of the mean (n = 3). Data were analysed by one-way analysis of variance and Dunnett's multiple comparison test systems to affect the phosphorylation of AMPK (Eid et al, 2014;Sánchez-Villavicencio et al, 2017), and we are the first to report that V. angustifolium crude leaf extract and chlorogenic acid increase AMPK phosphorylation in EVT cells. We suspect the effects of these treatments seen on trophoblast migration and invasion occurred through an AMPK-dependent mechanism.…”

“…Heat dissipation and non-linear effects due to high frequencies, compressible systems (density as a function of the pressure drop), and others diseases which can affect the hearing system (hypercholesterolemia, hyperglycemia, genetic problems, etc.) lie outside of the scope of the present research [37][38][39][40][41]. A posible path to continue this research is to exted it to new models in the regime of nonlinear viscoelasticity (large deformations).…”
