Fenestrated and Branched Endografts for the Treatment of Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysms: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Endovascular treatment with fenestrated or/and branched stent-grafts is a new therapeutic option with encouraging results for patients considered unfit for conventional open repair. However, prolonged follow-up studies are needed in order to draw robust conclusions.

“…of endoleaks occurred in the fenestrated or branched endograft during thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. 6) Likewise, our patient demonstrated a type IB endoleak. We deployed the extension stent graft just proximal to the SMA to reinforce the radial force and performed coil embolization of the aneurysmal cavity.…”

“…3) The use of a branched or fenestrated endograft is a potential endovascular repair option, and the published literature shows encouraging results. [4][5][6] We herein, report our experience with a thoracic stent graft with distal fenestration for the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) in the treatment of a TAA.…”

“…In a metaanalysis of 155 patients, Bakoyiannis et al [53] reported a technical success rate of 94.2 % for the implantation of fenestrated and branched endografts. The 30-day mortality rate was 7.1 % and the 1-year survival rate was 82.6 %.…”

“…The periprocedural mortality rate could be significantly lowered by performing endovascular repair in these highrisk patients. The perioperative mortality rate after open surgical repair in a comparable patient collective is 5 -34 % [53]. In a retrospective study including 107 patients, Troisi et al [50] reported the necessity for reinterventions after implantation of fenestrated and branched grafts.…”
