Femtosecond laser fabrication of waveguides in Rhodamine B-doped GPTS/TEOS-derived organic/silica monolithic xerogel

Abstract: a b s t r a c tThis paper reports on the fabrication and characterization of waveguides inside of a dye doped-organic/inorganic bulk material using femtosecond laser microfabrication. Rhodamine B-doped GPTS/TEOS-derived organic/silica monolithic xerogels with excellent optical quality were prepared by sol-gel method. The influence of the dye concentration on the samples optical properties was also investigated in order to choose the proper one to be used for producing the waveguides. After investigation of par… Show more

“…They combine the advantages of organic polymers, like toughness and flexibility, with those of inorganic components such as enhanced mechanical properties, chemical resistance, optical quality, etc. Organic/ Silica hybrid materials prepared by sol-gel process are the most studied and important class of hybrids due to their high applicability in several fields such as optics, photonics, energy, and medicine [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].…”

“…However, it has been reported that the TEOS/GPTMSderived hybrids prepared with a TEOS/GPTMS molar ratio equal to 1 present very enhanced mechanical and optical properties which can be appropriated for several applications. For instance, it was shown that luminescent quantum dots embedded in a 1:1 molar TEOS/GPTMS-derived organic/ silica matrix presented enhanced emission quantum efficiency (Alencar et al, 2014), and monolithic xerogels prepared with 1:1 molar TEOS/GPTMS-derived organic/silica hybrids doped with rhodamine B have been used for femtosecond laser fabrication of waveguides (Ferreira et al, 2015). In the present work, the structure and the growth kinetics of TEOS/GPTMSderived hybrids prepared with a TEOS/GPTMS molar ratio equal to 1 were studied by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) at different temperatures.…”

“…Na Fig. 2.13 é apresentado um exemplo de guias de onda fabricados pela técnica de microestruturação direta a laser 84 . A amostra utilizada para a produção desses guias é um material híbrido orgânicoinorgânico, dopado com Rodamina B (GPTS-TEOS-RdB), e sintetizado a partir da técnica sol-gel 85 .…”
