FEM Analysis of a Cantilever Sandwich Beam with MR Fluid Based on ANSYS

Abstract: The study covers the modeling three-layered beam incorporating a magnetorheological (MR) fluid. The beam finite element model was created using the ANSYS software. The beam comprises two outer layers made of aluminium and MR fluid layer in between, sealed with silicone rubber. Interactions of the magnetic field are taken into account by varying the parameters of the finite elements. Data required for identification were collected from results of measurement of the beams free vibrations. The identification proc… Show more

“…as the function of magnetic field strength H. Essential data for performing the identification were data basing on the measurements of displacement of the beam free end. The measurements were done at the laboratory stand described in works [11], [12], [14]. Tests were performed for various values of magnetic field strength H, for the electromagnet location determined by y m = 40 mm.…”

“…22 Romaszko et al studied the effects of different MR fluids on the free-decay response of an MR sandwich beam 23 while Romaszko and Wȩgrzynowski aimed to use the appropriate finite elements to represent an MR fluid for their ANSYS analysis. 24 Romaszko and Snamina then developed a method of calculating the relevant dynamic material properties of an MR fluid by first developing a finite element model of the beam 25 and then (with Paku la joining the previous authors) developing an optimization scheme using the eigenvalue problem that matches experimentally measured modal parameters for a given complex shear modulus. 26 Romaszko and Sapiński then investigated the relationship between the MR fluid dynamic properties to the location of the electromagnet along the beam's length.…”
