“…Cucurbitacins, a group of highiy oxygenated tetracyclic triterpenes commonly found in the Cucurbitaceae have been shown to act as potent feeding stimuiants for aduits of these species (Chambliss & Jones 1966a, b;Shinha & Krishna 1969;DaCosta & Jones 1971;Metcalf et al 1982;Nishida et al 1986). Metcalf (1979Metcalf ( , 1985Metcalf ( , 1986 reviewed the ecological similarities between two closeiy reiated but geographicaliy isolated subtribes, the Aulacophorina of the Old World and the Diabroticina of the New World both of which show strong affinity to cucurbitacins.…”

“…Such trenching behavior has not been observed among New World diabroticite beetles. Sinha & Krishna (1970) and Mehta & Sandhu (1992) found that cucurbitacins A, B, C and E are feeding stimulants for A. indica (reported as A. foveicollis). Mehta & Sandhu (1992) also report that A. indica is more sensitive to cucurbitacin B than E, which coincides nicely with the fact that B is the predominant cucurbitacin in the Cucurbitaceae and that E forms by enzymatic action on B (Metcalf et al 1980).…”

“…Metcalf et al (1980) similarly found cucurbitacin B to be more attractive than E for several New World species of Diabroticites. However the dosage of cucurbitacins exposed to A. indica by Mehta & Sandhu (1992) and Sinha & Krishna (1970) ranged from 1-50 mg. These authors made visual observations for one hour on how often a group of A. indica would feed on cucurbitacin impregnated filter paper.…”

“…Of late Aspergillus nidulans (9)(10)(11)(12) has been used extensively in genetical and biochemical analyses of fundamental aspects of growth and differentiation and, therefore, it is important to know the various aspects of submerged conidiation ;n this mould. It is with this in mind that the present 142 SAXENA and SINHA VOL.…”
