Feed-Forwarding the Output Voltage to Improve Efficiency for Envelope-Tracking Power Supply Based on a Switch-Linear Hybrid Scheme

Abstract: Envelope-tracking (ET) technique is one of the most promising methods to improve the efficiency of the modern wireless communication transmitters, which is based on using a highefficient power supply to provide varying voltage to the RF power amplifier. For this application, this letter adopts an AB-type linear amplifier and a synchronous rectification buck converter connected in parallel at the output to construct the ET power supply. The linear amplifier features of wide bandwidth and makes the output voltag… Show more

“…As the operation in the CCM in steady state is guaranteed if k > k crit and the maximum possible value of k crit is 1 (according to (16)), then the operation in the CCM in steady state will be guaranteed if the ratio ω S /ω C satisfies: Table 8 shows the values of π/l 1 for the different types and orders of the filters under study. These values also represent a lower limit for the quotient ω S /ω C in the plots given in Fig.…”

“…20 shows the current though L 1 , i L1 , the average value of i L1 during a switching period as given by (20), i L1_avg , and the steady-state value of i L1_avg according to the duty cycle the converter is operating at, i L1_avg_ss . It is assumed that the converter has been designed to operate in the CCM in steady state for any duty cycle d c , which means that not only (16) is satisfied, but also (18). If a rising voltage step takes place at the filter input and the converter was operating in steady-state just before that event, then the converter will continue operating in the CCM after the step because the current through the inductor increases (see Fig.…”

“…The associate editor coordinating the review of this manuscript and approving it for publication was Ho Ching Iu. demand high dynamic performance, have applied different types of converters for applications such as in variable speed DC motor drivers [3], renewable energy systems [4]- [6], transportation systems [7], [8], hybrid energy storage system [9], [10], communications systems [11]. In several of these applications, converters are controlled by switching through Pulse Width-Modulation (PWM) to transfer power from a power source to loads having a constant power characteristic.…”
