Feasibility of myomectomy performed by minilaparotomy

Abstract: Our report supports the wide application of minilaparotomic myomectomy and suggests that more than 85% of women with fit uterine myomatosis could be successfully managed in this way with a failure rate of 5.3% in eligible patients. The main criteria of minimal invasive surgery seem to be by minilaparotomic myomectomy, which should be considered a valid option for uterine myohas conservative treatment.

“…Both have been accepted as minimal access and less traumatic surgical methods (13). This less invasive procedure has been used in the management of various kinds of benign gynecologic diseases (14,16,19,25), and some have used it in the management of malignant gynecologic diseases (26,27), although there is some controversy regarding it use in the management of these diseases (28).…”

“…With the advances in techniques, the incision wound has become smaller and smaller, and MLT, frequently adopted by general surgeons and gynecologists, has been developed and used in the management of various kinds of benign diseases (14). Because the average incision wound in MLT is about 5 cm (ranging either from 4 to 9 cm or from 4 to 6 cm in length in different studies) (15)(16)(17)(18)(19), the MLT approach is considered as a minimally invasive procedure, and provides patients with a better postoperative recovery, compared with conventional laparotomy (19). If the incision wound length is limited to <4 cm, a new term, UMLT, can be used (13).…”

“…First, the incision wound was significantly smaller; the average incision wound was only 3.4 cm. Because the minilaparotomy approach was considered a minimally invasive procedure (24) and the average incision wound was approximately 5 cm (ranging either from 4 to 9 cm or from 4 to 6 cm in length in different studies) (19)(20)(21)(22)(23)(24), the ultraminilaparotomy approach is a minimally invasive procedure even though the wound extended to 5 cm and even though the latter condition (wound length R5 cm) should not be considered as a ultraminilaparotomy. In this study, none of the ultraminilaparotomy incision wounds was >5 cm in length.…”

“…In recent years, the concept has been applied in the management of uterine myomas and other gynecologic disease (18)(19)(20)(21)(22)(23)(24). In addition, there is an urge to reduce intraoperative and postoperative complications, to increase the compliance of patients, and to reduce cost.…”
