Feasibility of Mobile Cellular Communications at Millimeter Wave Frequency

Abstract: High data rate at high mobile speed will still be an essential requirement for the future 5G mobile cellular system. High frequency bands above 6 GHz are particularly promising for the 5G system because of large signal bandwidths such high frequencies can offer. And it was shown that by using high gain beamforming antennas, the problem of high propagation loss at high frequencies could be compensated almost completely. But, achieving high speed mobile cellular communications with beamforming antennas at such a… Show more

“…The value of RRC connection release time t rc = 50 milliseconds, RRC connection establish time t ec = 100 milliseconds 21 and paging cycle 128 milliseconds. To consider the number of beams at the gNB and at the UE, we have referred to work in References 16,39. We considered three sectors at gNB, with 16 beams at each sector, each beam of beamwidth 7.5° and eight beams at the receiver side 39 .…”

“…To consider the number of beams at the gNB and at the UE, we have referred to work in References 16,39. We considered three sectors at gNB, with 16 beams at each sector, each beam of beamwidth 7.5° and eight beams at the receiver side 39 . Thus, the UE has to align 16 × 8 = 128 beams to get the best beam pair.…”

“…Beamforming technical is also a solution to address the above problems. However, some existing research on mmWave communication is always under the assumption that the service area is covered by uniform beamforming (Kim et al, 2016;Va et al, 2015). This assumption may be unsuitable for HSR scenario that the network topology is linear.…”

“…The fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication networks aim to support massive number of devices with higher capacity, data rate, less latency, improved spectral energy, and cost considerations [1,2]. However, the sub-6 GHz frequency bands in mobile communication systems are insufficient to meet the increasing data rate demand in the upcoming 5G communication system [3].…”
