FDTD modelling in high‐resolution 2D and 3D GPR surveys on a reinforced concrete column in a double wall of hollow bricks

Abstract: A structural characterization of a reinforced concrete column in a double wall of hollow bricks, carried out within diagnostics testing through 2D and 3D high‐frequency GPR surveys and aimed at the evaluation of the seismic vulnerability of a building is proposed. It highlights how the use of FDTD simulation allows the limits of these surveys to be overcome, with reference to the difficulty of the processing and interpretation steps in order to identify rebars beyond the hollow bricks. Their reflection pattern… Show more

“…Most of the publications reviewed were articles, with 87 publications (87.9%), followed by conference papers and book chapters with 10 (9.9%) and 2 (2.2%) publications, respectively, as shown in Figure 2. Regarding the number of publications per objective, an equal distribution has been found over the years, with 32% in Reinforced concrete column beyond a double wall of hollow bricks ✓ De Domenico et al [45] structural safety, with 35% in energy efficiency and user wellbeing, and with 33% in heritage preservation, respectively, as shown in Figure 3.…”

“…Although some works where the FDTD method was successfully applied to GPR surveys are documented in literature (Solla et al . ; De Domenico, Campo and Teramo ; Angelis et al . ), no applications of the FDTD modelling of precast elements are currently reported.…”
