FDTD Analysis of a Dual-Frequency Microstrip Patch Antenna

Abstract: Abstract-Characteristics of a single-layer, dual-frequency microstrip patch antenna, which uses a T-strip loaded rectangular microstrip patch, are studied. This antenna is easy to achieve good impedance matching at both frequencies by tuning the feed position and other design parameters. Another advantageous aspect is that it has high polarization purity. A detailed parameter study is performed and the theoretical analysis is based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The FDTD programs are devel… Show more

“…The application of the FDTD scheme to a helix antenna is a rather complicated issue, as it has already been mentioned, due to the small spatial resolution that is demanded to accurately model such a complex structure, in contradiction to the rather straightforward FDTD modeling of other common antennas such as a λ/4 monopole antenna [22], a microstrip patch antenna [23] or a square slot antenna [24]. In this study, in order to model the helix through the FDTD, the coordinates of each segment comprising the MoM implementation of the helical handset were used.…”

“…In this paper, the finite-different time domain (FDTD) method is applied to simulate the propagation characteristic of TR UWB electromagnetic wave in indoor environment [19][20][21]. The characteristics of time compression and spacing focusing of TR UWB signals are analyzed, and UWB signal transmissions for TR UWB communication are studied numerically to demonstrate its potential applications.…”

“…For some numerical methods in electromagnetics such as the finite element method (FEM) [10][11][12][13]19], finite-difference method (FDM) [2][3][4][20][21][22][23][24], the transmission line matrix (TLM) [25][26][27][28] and method of lines (MoL) [29][30][31][32], the fundamental mode of transverse electric or transverse magnetic field of the studied structure is considered as an excitation source. This excitation mode is named extended source.…”
