“…Clarithromycin eradicated H. pylori in 26% of the subjects and LC-1 did not improve the effect of the antibiotic. 46 Side effects decreased during supplementation with L. casei DG in the course of quadruple therapy, resulting in a slight improvement of H. pylori eradication. 47 The results of these studies suggest that probiotic supplementation during anti-H. pylori therapy decreases adverse side effects, resulting in better compliance and, in some cases, improved rates of eradication.…”

“…L. johnsonii La1 (formerly Lactobacillus acidophilus La1) is a Nestlé proprietary strain that has been extensively studied for its probiotic properties and is commercialised in the LC 1 fermented milk products. La1 shows immunomodulatory properties (Link-Amster et al 1994;Schiffrin et al 1995;Haller et al 2000a,b), antipathogenic properties (Bernet et al 1994;BernetCamard et al 1997;Felley et al 2001;Pérez et al 2001) and the ability to interact with the host (Granato et al 1999;Neeser et al 2000). The determination and analysis of the complete genome sequence of L. johnsonii La1 has provided valuable targets for the investigation of the above interactions.…”

“…[29]. Further investigations in Switzerland have found that L. johnsonii probiotics are capable of producing a favourable affect on H.pylori induced gastritis in human subjects including a trial which found that 2 weeks of L. johnsonii consumption suppressed H.pylori infection regardless of whether it was combined with a standard medication used to treat H. pylori called omeprazole, or with a placebo [30].…”
