Abstract:The base‐promoted or, ‐catalyzed ethynylation of aldehydes and ketones to produce secondary or tertiary acetylenic alcohols or glycols using anhydrous KOH or NaOH and is generally referred to as the Favorskii‐Babayan reaction or Favorskii reaction.
