Favorable self-rated health is associated with ideal cardiovascular health: a cohort study

Abstract: To improve CVH, epidemiological evidence suggests that it is more important to emphasize health promotion than disease treatment. As a result, the concept of ideal CVH has been defined by researchers in populations that meet the criteria outlined by the AHA "Life's Simple 7." 3 These optimal metrics included 4 ideal health behaviors and 3 ideal health measures. Previous studies have revealed that ideal levels of the above metrics are related to a decreased incidence of stroke 4 and atrial fibrillation, 5 as we… Show more

“…We measured self-reported general health using the single item ‘In general, how would you rate your health?’ rated on a 5-point Likert Scale ‘Very good, good, moderate, bad, very bad’. This item has been found to correlate with physiological health markers (Warnoff et al 2016 ; Gallagher et al 2016 ) and to predict health status (Tseng et al 2021 ) and mortality (Benyamini and Idler 1999 ; Inkrot et al 2016 ).…”

“…rated on a 5-point Likert Scale 'Very good, good, moderate, bad, very bad' . This item has been demonstrated to predict health status [40] and mortality [41,42], and correlates with physiological health markers [43,44]. We also collected data on a predefined set of ten health complaints (i.e., back pain, sleeplessness, headache, breathing problems, cold, tuberculosis, jaundice, stomach problems, muscle cramps, eye problems), which were based on our prior ethnographic [7] and epidemiological research in the garment sector [6].…”
