This study provides the first record and description of the hydroid <i>Protulophila gestroi </i>Rovereto, 1901 from the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (Czech Republic). The hydroid colony was bioclaustrated by a serpulid tube on the underside of a platy sponge, which is also encrusted by three species of bryozoans and an oyster. The Bohemian specimen differs from previously described specimens of <i>P. gestroi </i>in having zooidal orifices with broad sinuses

The Mid dle Turonian sed i ments of the Nysa K³odzka Graben (Bystrzyca Sand stone in the Stara Bystrzyca out crop and the D³ugopole Sand stone in D³ugopole Górne Quarry) con tain trace fos sils, which in clude Curvolithus sim plex, ?Macaronichnus isp., Ophiomorpha nodosa, Ophiomorpha isp., Palaeophycus tubularis, Thalassinoides cf. paradoxicus, T. suevicus and Thalassinoides isp. The as sem blage of trace fos sils points to the prox i mal Cruziana ichnofacies, that char ac ter izes the dis tal lower shoreface and the ar che typal Cruziana ichnofacies, typ i cal of up per off shore set tings. The trace fos sils ev i dence implies that sed i men ta tion took place in a shal low ba sin with pe ri ods of a sud den sed i ment in put, good ox y gen a tion and nor mal sa lin ity. The Bystrzyca and D³ugopole sand stones are de pos its of the shal low epicontinental sea that were de pos ited between the fair-weather and storm-wave base, in the dis tal lower shoreface-up per off shore set ting. The Bystrzyca Sand stone is rec og nized as storm-orig i nated de pos its, whereas the D³ugopole Sand stone is prob a bly the part of prograding "ac cu mu lation ter race". The source of ma te rial for the sand stone was the East Sudetic Is land and prob a bly also the Orlica-Bystrzyca Up lift. The stud ied sand stones are re lated to a re gres sion that started in the early/mid dle Mid dle Turonian and caused a rel ative up lift of the sur round ing land.

High-resolution Campanian-Maastrichtian carbon and oxygen stable isotopes of bulk-rock and skeletal components: palaeoceanographic and palaeoenvironmental implications for the Boreal shelf sea. Acta Geologica Polonica, 67 (1), 47-74. Warszawa.A high-resolution latest Early Campanian to Early Maastrichtian carbon and oxygen stable isotope record from the northern German Boreal shelf sea based on 537 analyses of co-occurring belemnites, brachiopods, inoceramids, oysters, and bulk rock samples is presented. All samples are precisely related to their stratigraphic, systematic and facies backgrounds and form an integrated, nearly 10-myr-long dataset with considerable palaeoenvironmental and palaeoceanographical implications. Petrographic studies indicate that low-magnesium calcitic coccoliths and calcispheres (i.e., planktic carbonate) predominate the bulk-rock data (marl-limestone rhythmites and chalks), thus representing a sea-surface water signal, and that only minor diagenetic alteration of the carbonate muds took place. Based on TL and CL microscopy, the investigated belemnites are extraordinarily well preserved, which may in part be explained by their early diagenetic surficial silicification (container effect), while the other macroinvertebrate groups are all less well preserved. The (plankton-dominated) d O signal of ambient seawater (12 ± 2°C). In the absence of any indication for migration from cooler water masses and evidence for authochtonous populations we assume that the belemnites of the genera Belemnitella and Belemnella lived as nektobenthos near the sea-floor and thus record the temperature of the bottom mixed layer of the seasonally weakly stratified north German shelf sea at water depths of 100 to 150 m; the temperature gradient was thus 12.5-18.75 m/1°C. A conspicuous latest Campanian cooling event is evident in both sea-surface and bottom-water temperatures. The d 18O values of nearly all investigated benthic fossils lie between the isotope values of pristine belemnites and bulk rock, and, therefore, should be used for palaeotemperature reconstructions only with great care.
