Fault Diagnosis of Discrete-Event Systems Using Continuous Petri Nets

Abstract: When discrete event systems are used to model systems with a large number of possible (reachable) states, many problems such as simulation, optimization, and control, may become computationally prohibitive because they require some enumeration of such states. A common way to effectively address this issue is fluidization. The goal of this paper is that of studying the effect of fluidization on fault diagnosis. In particular, we focus on the purely logic Petri net model that results in the untimed continuous Pe… Show more

“…Based on the multiparadigm modeling concept, Lee et al [20] propose a Petri net framework to model hybrid dynamic systems, where a Petri net is used to model a coordinated controller, and differential and difference equations are used to model subsystems. Mahulea et al [27] describe how to analyze discrete-event systems with continuous Petri nets in order to address the state space explosion problem. Basile et al [8], [9] modele automated warehouse systems with a new class of hybrid Petri net that merges hybrid and colored Petri nets.…”

“…Dimitri and Edouard 16 present an approach to perform fault detection and identification of discrete event systems based on Petri nets. Mahulea et al 17 study the effect of fluidization on fault diagnosis using purely logic Petri net models. Renganathan and Bhaskar 18 discuss a Petri net approach to achieve fault diagnosis in a typical bottle-filling plant.…”

“…Extensions to stochastic DESs and timed DESs have also been reported [17]- [21]. Recently, Manuscript approaches to fault diagnosis using Petri Net models have been reported [22]- [24], and fault-tolerant control of DESs has also started to receive attention [25]- [27]. A broad overview of many aspects of fault diagnosis for DESs is given in [28].…”
