Fault Detection and Diagnosis in Multi-Robot Systems: A Survey

Abstract: The use of robots has increased significantly in the recent years; rapidly expending to numerous applications. These sophisticated machines are susceptible to different types of faults that might endanger the robot or its surroundings. These faults must be detected and diagnosed in time to allow continual operation. The field of Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) has been studied for many years. This research has given birth to many approaches that are applicable to different types of physical machines. Howev… Show more

“…Also, in a general manner, Swarm Robotics refers to cost-restrained machines. MRS is not closed on this scope, often managing autonomous robots in the industrial supply chain or with sophisticated structures [ 37 , 38 ]. Another relevant point on the differentiation between Swarm Robotics and MRS is the acting capabilities.…”

“…some component or middleware element has failed. Crucially there is no attempt to automatically recover failed components (Khalastchi and Kalech 2019). Rather than adapting to system failures, RAMPs provide computational fault-tolerance by automatically restarting failed computations to enable them to execute to completion.…”

“…Importantly, if not taken into consideration, a failure in a single robot can be detrimental for the overall success of an MRS. Research in the area shows that robots are prone to failures, such as crashes, freezing, unexpected robot shutdown, and network failures (Crestani et al 2015;Khalastchi and Kalech 2019).…”

“…It is used for noise removal and feature extraction to detect the faulty parts in signals. Many researchers uses LabVIEW in their work [36], [2], but in [37], both LabView and Matlab are used together for wavelet programing. In [38] a method is presented for the purpose of detection and isolation for three sensors; those usually have common faults in wireless network sensors in a wind turbine monitoring systems, thus three type of faults appear because of a malfunctions or a hard or soft faults.…”

“…In recent years, robots have been developed and take a place in most of the fields [1], [2], it taken a place in the industries, militaries, medical surgeries, medical devices, surveillance systems, monitoring and others. The robot has become the main part of most industrial fields, according to that, the robot has to be more safe and accurate.…”
