Fault Current Limiter Dynamic Voltage Restorer (FCL-DVR) With Reduced Number of Components

Abstract: In this paper, a new dual function fault current limiter-dynamic voltage restorer (FCL-DVR) topology is proposed. The proposed structure, in addition to performing routine FCL tasks, can be used to improve the voltage quality of point of common coupling (PCC). A salient feature of this FCL-DVR is its reduced number of semiconductor switches and gate drive and control circuit components. Perhaps, variety structures of FCL-DVR have been proposed but most distinctive feature of proposed structure is lower power l… Show more

“…In the current research landscape, various approaches are being explored to suppress fault currents in DC sub-grids within hybrid microgrid systems. Fault current limiters (FCLs) are one of the primary methods used to limit fault currents and prevent damage to system components [19][20][21][22][23][24]. Different types of FCLs, such as superconducting FCLs, resistive FCLs, and hybrid FCLs, are being studied for their effectiveness in reducing fault currents during fault events.…”

“…Hence, lower loss and cost can be two important issues that Ref. [37] tries to give a solution for them by introducing a topology with reduced number of switches, gate drive, and control circuit components. Ref.…”

“…In order to provide acceptable power quality for sensitive loads, both voltage fluctuations and short circuit current limiting concerns must be addressed. In recent years, it has become increasingly appealing to combine these two protective devices and create a dual-function FCL-DVR that controls voltage fluctuations while also reducing short circuit current [7][8][9][10][11][12]. The most significant advantage of this dual function device is the reduction of device components and the realization of a cost-effective converter.…”
