“…In studies that examined the impact of Montmorency tart cherry juice supplementation on exercise-induced inflammation, tart cherry juice attenuated circulating inflammatory markers and increased the antioxidant capacity of cyclists and marathon runners (58,59). Because patients with sleep and psychiatric disorders exhibit increased levels of oxidative stress (60), the abundance of antioxidants in cherries may mediate improvements in sleep quality by minimizing oxidative damage.…”

“…Kiwifruit is a good source of vitamins C and E (46), both of which protect against the damaging effects of free radicals, and is a source of folate. Previous studies reported an association between disordered sleep and oxidative stress (60), and folate deficiency has been linked to insomnia and restless leg syndrome (61). Folic acid supplementation has been shown to alleviate these symptoms (62).…”

“…Apesar da etiologia incerta da esquizofrenia, evidências apontam para um metabolismo anormal dos fosfolipídios, particularmente na composição dos ácidos graxos das membranas celulares [14][15][16][17][18][19] . Nesse contexto, estudos revelaram que pacientes esquizofrênicos apresentam níveis reduzidos de ácidos graxos de cadeia longa nas membranas dos eritrócitos, provavelmente por causa de atividade excessiva de uma fosfolipase A 2 20,21 .…”

“…The participants underwent a medical examination and blood sampling. Serum TOS, TAC, estrogen, progesterone, and PON-1 levels were assessed during the luteal (days [21][22][23][24][25] and follicular (days 6-8) phases of 2 consecutive menstrual cycles in all 50 subjects. Ovulation was determined by evaluating plasma progesterone levels on day 21 (the subject was considered to be ovulating when plasma progesterone levels were ≥10.0 ng/ mL).…”

“…Measuring the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) requires the simultaneous quantification of several antioxidant markers and is one indicator of oxidative status [5]. Oxidative stress may lead to premature cell death and is associated with many ischemic and inflammatory diseases, degenerative disorders, and psychiatric disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, sleep disorders, and anxiety disorders [18][19][20][21][22][23]. In addition, almost all steps of inflammation and cellular immune activation have been linked to depression pathogenesis [24][25][26][27][28].…”
