Fatigue Resistance of Self-hardening Aluminium Cast Alloy

Abstract: Cast aluminium alloys are widely used in fatigue critical structural applications, such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, chassis and suspension components, to improve automotive fuel economy. However, it may be difficult to use these alloys for parts that require a high fatigue strength and high reliability because of a large number of casting defects as porosity and microshrinkages exist in them. Fatigue properties of cast aluminium components are controlled by maximum defect size in the material. The larger… Show more

“…However, this is worse in the case of significant disproportionality in the load, where their applicability is limited or only indicative. The paper deals with selected methods of critical plane approach (CPA) as well as with two modifications of the integral approach, which were implemented in FE analyzes [13,15,19,21].…”

“… Newton's methodsthey use the information about first and second differentiation of objective functions and constrains conditions (Fletcher-Powell, conjugate gradient method, etc.). Let's define the optimizing problem of the optimal mass design subjected to the prescribed fatigue life [2,14,16,23,24]. For a structure of multiple elements, the optimization problem of discrete variables can be stated mathematically as minimizing an objective function…”
