Fatigue life prediction and fracture mechanism of styrene-butadiene-styrene thermoplastic elastomer under uniaxial tension

Abstract: The fatigue life and prediction of styrene-butadiene-styrene thermoplastic elastomer (SBS) under the action of uniaxial tension was investigated, and the fatigue fracture mechanism was analyzed. With the increases of amplitude and frequency, the fatigue life of SBS decreases. The fatigue life of SBS under the amplitude and frequency was predicted, and the shift factor was applied to predict the fatigue life of SBS at the other frequency and amplitude. With the increase of temperature, the fatigue life decrease… Show more

“…5,6 Among the block copolymers containing PS segment, the most well-known one used as a thermoplastic elastomer is styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer, known as SBS. [7][8][9] Wu et al investigated the effect of use of SBS on the toughening of a blend of polyethylene (PE) and PS. They found that adding 15 wt% SBS to the blend of PS/PE blend with a ratio of 4/1 enhanced the impact strength by approximately 15 times.…”
