Fatigue durability of asphalt-cement mixtures

Abstract: Abstract. This paper focuses on examinations of asphalt-cement mixtures (ACM). This is a recycled material which can be used in road pavement layers. In the article stiffness modulus tests and fatigue tests of asphalt-cement mixtures were shown. The authors decided to lead research on fatigue durability of asphalt-cement mixtures to set fatigue characteristics of these materials. So far in research or other works any adequate fatigue criterion for ACM mixtures has not been developed. As a result of the examina… Show more

“…In the design of MCE mixes, based on own experience [ 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 ] and information recorded in world literature [ 52 , 61 , 62 ], the percentage of cement was assumed to be 3%. The designed MCE mixes use CEM II class 32.5 Portland cement.…”

“…In the design of MCE mixes, using own experience [ 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 ] and knowledge taken from the world literature [ 65 , 66 , 67 ], the percentage of asphalt emulsion 60/40 at 5% was set. Such emulsion content allowed to obtain the total binder content in fine-grained mixtures at the level of 5.1%, and in coarse-grained mixes at the level of 4.9% (taking into account the binder contained in the emulsion and the destructor).…”

“…FAC mixtures lose a significant part of the complex stiffness modulus relatively quickly and may be characterized by local decreases in stiffness, but they are still able to carry the given load in the form of strain. This is because microcracks appear in the analyzed material, which do not disqualify it for use in the layers of the road pavement base, in which such cracks are acceptable [39,40]. All tested mixtures had a similar character in the fatigue test.…”
