“…A study aimed at comparing the characteristics of alcohol related fatalities between vulnerable road users (unprotected) and vehicle occupants (protected) using post mortem BAC was conducted in Budapest. The research revealed that 48% of the unprotected group (pedestrians and cyclists) had their BAC above the legal limit for motorists, whilst a comparatively lower proportion, 33% of the protected group, (car occupants) exceeded the legal BAC limit (Törő, Hubay, Sótonyi, & Keller, 2005). In Australia, road traffic crashes relating to alcohol impairment also detected that alcohol was more prevalent among pedestrians, 56% compared to drivers' 24%, in the emergency department (Lindsay, 2012).…”
