Identifying the correlations between the attributes of severe accidents could be vital to preventing them. If such relationships were known dynamically, it would be possible to take preventative actions against accidents. The paper aims to develop an analytical model that is adaptable for each type of data to create preventative measures that will be suitable for any computational systems. The present model collectively shows the relationships between the attributes in a coherent manner to avoid severe accidents. In this respect, Association Rule Mining (ARM) is used as the technique to identify the correlations between the attributes. The research adopts a positivist approach to adhere to the factual knowledge concerning nine different accident types through case studies and quantitative measurements in an objective nature. ARM was exemplified with nine different types of construction accidents to validate the adaptability of the proposed model. The results show that each accident type has different characteristics with varying combinations of the attribute, and analytical model accomplished to accommodate variation through the dataset. Ultimately, professionals can identify the cause-effect relationships effectively and set up preventative measures to break the link between the accident causing factors.

Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Das genaue Wissen um die Umstände eines jeden tödlichen Arbeitsunfalls ist Voraussetzung für die Identifizierung von Unfallschwerpunkten und ermöglicht eine effektive Präventionsarbeit. Mit dieser rechtsmedizinischen Studie zum Arbeitsunfallgeschehen soll ein Beitrag dazu geleistet werden, die Zahl tödlicher Arbeitsunfälle in Deutschland zu senken. Material und Methode Zur Untersuchung kamen die tödlichen Arbeitsunfälle, die sich im Einzugsbereich des rechtsmedizinischen Instituts Frankfurt am Main in den Jahren von 2005 bis 2016 ereigneten. Ausgewertet wurden Obduktionsprotokolle sowie die dem Institut zur Verfügung gestellten staatsanwaltschaftlichen Ermittlungsakten. Ergebnisse Es fanden sich 87 tödliche Arbeitsunfälle in dem genannten Zwölfjahreszeitraum. Die Altersstruktur reichte vom jugendlichen Alter bis in das Rentenalter. Betroffen waren zum größten Teil männliche Arbeiter (96,6 %, p < 0,0001), verhältnismäßig häufig ausländischer Nationalität (34,5 %). Die meisten Unfälle ereigneten sich in der 2. Jahreshälfte (58,6 %), an Montagen (26,4 %), kurz vor und nach der Mittagspause. In 3 Fällen lag die Blutalkoholkonzentration über 0,5‰. Die Baubranche (55,2 %) war der unfallträchtigste Wirtschaftszweig. Der Absturz (28,7 %) war der häufigste Unfallmechanismus und das Polytrauma (39,1 %) gemeinsam mit dem Schädel-Hirn-Trauma (24,1 %) gemäß dem ISS die häufigste Todesursache. Diskussion Nach den Ergebnissen dieser Studie sollten Alter der Arbeiter sowie die Tages‑, Wochen- und Jahreszeit bei der Ausführung risikoreicher Arbeiten im Baugewerbe berücksichtigt werden. Besonderes Augenmerk sollten Arbeitgeber auf die Kontrolle von Sicherheitsvorkehrungen bei Arbeiten in der Höhe sowie auf die Durchsetzung der Helmpflicht gerade auch bei ausländischen Arbeitnehmern legen.

The work done on construction sites is high risk, unsafe and could result in work-related accidents. The effect of accidents often impacts the social and economic integrity of the workers and their productivity negatively. The reported study in this paper investigated 'how standardized work prevents accidents on construction sites?' A single case research design was used to collect the primary data through semi-structured interviews and focus group interviews. The collected data were analyzed thematically. From the findings, it was discovered that improper working conditions related to scaffolds often causes accidents on construction sites. In effect, the use of standardized work would help to eradicate improper working conditions that lead to accidents because it helps project supervisors/engineers to avoid errors and omissions. For standardized work to be successful, the project supervisors should actively address the behavioral problems of the workers. Therefore, it is recommended that there is a need to conduct further research that would establish the strength of the standardized work in improving health, safety and well-being (HSW) of people in the construction.
