Fast Timing Measurement Using an LaBr$_3$(Ce) Scintillator Detector Array Coupled with Gammasphere

Abstract: A fast-timing experiment was performed at the Argonne National Laboratory in December 2015 and January 2016, measuring decay radiation of fission products from a 252 Cf fission source. Details of the set-up, integration with Digital Gammasphere, and the data acquisition system are presented. The timing performance of the set-up, capable of measuring lifetimes from the nanosecond region down to tens of picoseconds, is discussed. First preliminary results from the fast-timing analysis of the fission fragment dat… Show more

“…The curve shown in Fig. 11 is similar to the one obtained from a measurement performed at Argonne National Laboratory in which the same detectors and electronics were used [32]. The mean lifetime is measured to be 2.046(43) ns using an exponential fit to the slope.…”

“…The time walk, or residual time walk, that still persists after the signal has been discriminated in the CFD, is a very important characteristic for the application of the centroid shift method. Applying this method, lifetimes down to less than 10 ps can be measured bydelayed coincidence using the FATIMA array [32]. For this purpose the prompt response curve (PRC) of the system, i.e.…”
