“…The maximum concentrations were found to be 166 μg kg –1 for Cd, 106 μg kg –1 for Cr, 137 μg kg –1 for Pb, 82 μg kg –1 for V, and 92 μg kg –1 for Mo. Previous works have also reported values at the μg kg –1 level for the five target elements. ,,, The presence of some transition metals, even in low concentrations, could promote the oxidation of biodiesel, leading to adversely affect engines operation through corrosion, deposit formation, and fuel injection failure. In addition, toxic metals can be considered environmental pollutants since these species can be released into the atmosphere during the burn of the fuel …”

“…Due to the low concentrations of metals in biodiesel samples, the metals determination requires the use of sensitive analytical techniques. Therefore, in general, techniques used for this objective are typically inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES), and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ET AAS). However, sample preparation is a critical step because of the high organic content of the biodiesel samples and, in general, requires the organic matrix destruction by a time-consuming digestion procedure using concentrated acids and heating . As an alternative, new analytical methods need to be proposed that avoid hazardous, drastic, and longtime sample pretreatments.…”

“…The variance in these results was evaluated through the F test, being comparable (F calculated 1.55 and F critical 3.44). The averages were compared through paired Student's t-test, t calculated of 9.03 and t critical Although the use of chemical modifiers may be unnecessary for the determination of Chromium due to its refractory behavior, the use of relatively low pyrolysis temperatures can influence the elimination of complex matrices [24][25][26]. The use of modifiers such as magnesium nitrate, Mg(NO 3 ) 2 , is reported in the literature for Chromium determination in different types of matrices, allowing the thermal stabilization of the analyte during the pyrolysis step without sensitivity losses, thus justifying its use [25,26].…”

“…For example, dilution of biodiesel with ethanol allows for using inorganic standards and aqueous solutions in elemental determination by microwave-induced plasma optical emission spectrometry (MIP OES) and EC (Amais et al, 2013 ). Dilution of biodiesel and vegetable oil with isobutyl ketone is also compatible with EC using aqueous standards and determination by high resolution-continuum source GF AAS (HR-CS GF AAS; Almeida et al, 2016 ). Photo-oxidation by UV radiation is another strategy to minimize matrix effects and allow for using inorganic-matrix aqueous standard solutions in fruit juice analysis by F AAS and EC (Brandão et al, 2012 ).…”
