FAST Rate Allocation for JPEG2000 Video Transmission Over Time-Varying Channels

Abstract: Abstract-This work introduces a rate allocation method for the transmission of pre-encoded JPEG2000 video over timevarying channels, which vary their capacity during video transmission due to network congestion, hardware failures, or router saturation. Such variations occur often in networks and are commonly unpredictable in practice. The optimization problem is posed for such networks and a rate allocation method is formulated to handle such variations. The main insight of the proposed method is to extend the… Show more

“…However, in this case, it can be implemented by the sender (server), receivers (clients) or both. FAST, proposed by Aulí-Llinàs et al in [16] and improved by Jimenez-Rodriguez et al in [17], is a sender-driven RA algorithm for MJ2K sequences. Another interesting MJ2K/MCJ2K sender-driven RA proposal was introduced by Naman et al, which uses Conditional Replenishment (CR) [18] and Motion Compensated (MC) [19].…”

“…A dynamic channel coding scheme is presented for robust transmission of JPEG 2000 codestreams over mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) in [32], and the proposed scheme is implemented according to the recommendations of the Wireless JPEG 2000 standard. In [33], a fast rate allocation method is presented for JPEG 2000 videos over time-varying channels, and the steepest descent algorithm is employed to extend the complexity scalability. Another UEP scheme is adopted for JPEG 2000 image/video transmission over wireless channel in [34].…”
