Fast Method for Testing the Photocatalytic Performance of Modified Gypsum

Abstract: The measurement of the photocatalytic activity of building materials is quite time-consuming. Up until now, researchers have mainly used the equipment described in ISO 22197-1 to ISO 22197-4 for the determination of air purification activity, although other apparatus such as colorimeters, UV-Vis/DR spectroscopes and equipment for contact angle measurements have also been used. Usually, photocatalytic activity measurements take from one hour up to several hours. In this study, we present a very fast method for … Show more

“…The photocatalytic properties of modified gypsum plasters toward air purification were estimated during NO x degradation. The detailed parameters of the process and the scheme of NO x installation were depicted in our previous works [41,42]. Briefly, in each test, the four gypsum plates were placed in the center of a quartz cylindrical reactor with dimensions of Ø × H = 9 × 32 cm, which was surrounded by four UV lamps (4 × 22 W, Philips) with the cumulative radiation intensity of 100 W/m 2 UV and 4 W/m 2 vis.…”

“…The photocatalytic activity of the prepared plates of cement mortar toward the degradation of air pollutions was also proved. In our previous works [31,32], the gaseous NO (1.989 vppm ± 0.040 ppm, Air Liquide) was used as model pollution in photocatalytic tests. NOx removal was evaluated using the experimental installation, whose scheme is presented in Figure 1.…”
