Fast and Painless Skin Tag Excision with Ethyl Chloride

Abstract: Skin tags (acrochordon) are skin colored or hyperpigmented, usually pedunculated benign skin lesions and often occur on the neck, axilla, and groin regions. It is difficult choice to excise these multiple, widespread, and pedinculated lesions with or without local anesthesia. One option is to infiltrate local anesthesia to every single skin tag, while cutting pedicle with single move is another option. However, both of these options are painful to some degree. We routinely use ethyl chloride spray anesthesia f… Show more

“…Surgical excision under local anaesthesia or electrocautery is the treatment of choice, although chemical destruction, cryotherapy or laser therapy can also be considered. [1][2][3][4] The internet abounds with information suggesting home remedies including the use of duct tape, tying the skin tag using dental floss or cotton thread, or the application of products intended to dry out or irritate the skin lesions (eg, oregano oil, tea tree oil, aloe vera, baking soda, castor oil paste, garlic or garlic paste, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, fig stem juice, pineapple juice). These home remedies are not recommended.…”

“…Skin tags are skin colored or hyperpigmented, usually pedunculated cutaneous lesions, that occur in different body regions, from the face to the limbs, up to the fingers. 1,2 These benign lesions often represent only an aesthetic problem, but if subjected to trauma, they can occasionally bleed, with possible infection and pain. Many treatment options exist for skin tag in adult patients, such as cryosurgery, surgical excision, and electrosurgery, while ligature or excision are preferred for the newborns.…”

“…Many treatment options exist for skin tag in adult patients, such as cryosurgery, surgical excision, and electrosurgery, while ligature or excision are preferred for the newborns. 1 However, when they occur in the preauricular region, attention should be paid to the diagnosis and right approach. 3,4 The purpose of this paper is to offer a new approach to the soft-pedicled skin tags of the preauricular region, showing our ligature technique with Ligaclip in the newborn patients.…”
