Fast algorithm and application of Hough transform in iris segmentation

Abstract: Hough transform is a common algorithm used to detect geometry shape of objects in computer Image processing, some points saMed lines, circles and other C I I N~S will be detected easily by using Hough transform in image. In iris refognition system, both the inner boundsry and the outer boundary of a typical iris can approximately be taken as circles, sn the two circles of iris CM be obtained by using Hough hnnsform. In this paper, Hough transform algorithm is introduced and is adopted in iris mentation. A modi… Show more

“…For iris segmentation many researchers [5][6][7][8][9][10] assume that the inner and the outer iris boundary are circular or elliptical. This is a source of error, since the iris boundaries are not exactly circles or ellipses even in a cooperative recognition environment [11].…”

“…For example, Daugman in [5], applied an integrodifferential operator to delimitate the circular boundaries of the iris, while other researchers [6,7] used the circular Hough transforms to locate iris boundaries. Other methods based on circular iris boundaries approximation have also been implemented such as least square method proposed by Zhu et al [8], gray distribution feature method proposed by Yuan et al [9] and Hough transform with integro-differential operator proposed by Abidin et al [10].…”

“…The discrimination is increased by a factor of two by combining two packets. Quan Pan et al, [12] adopted Hough Transform for Iris Segmentation. Both the inner boundary and the outer boundary of the Iris considered as circles, so the two circles of the Iris are obtained using Hough Transform.…”

“…Later many researchers started working in iris image preprocessing which is an important step in iris recognition. Iris image preprocessing includes detection of the pupil center [8], normalization [1] & [5] and segmentation. To detect chromatogram center we used the method [8] of using projection to locate the center.…”

To detect chromatogram center we used the method [8] of using projection to locate the center. Papers for texture segmentation [3], [4] & [7] use a combination of Gabor and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) based features to segment different texture regions in synthetic and aerial real-world images.…”
