This year's bibliographic entries reflect life-writings from many eras, regions, nations, and ethnic groupings. These examine various sociohistorical distinctions which aid in the formation of cultural difference and individual uniqueness. There is particular emphasis on civilizations utilizing oral sources and the problems scholars encounter "reading" non-Western and/or pre-literate life-studies composed by members of Black slave, Native American, and Asian communities.
