“…In a meta-analysis of 15 studies (16 independent samples), Stewart et al 65 (AMSTAR = low quality) concluded that integrating family treatment with CBT protocols reduced OCD severity (good effect size: Hedge’s g = 1.39). The authors also suggested that this combination may help reduce the severity of depressive symptoms and functional impairment, in addition to improving satisfaction with personal relationships and the mental health of family members (COR = 2b, LOE = C-LD).…”

This suggests that family involvement is essential for optimizing treatment efficacy in adult OCD.…”

“…Moreover, most research on families and OCD has centered on pediatric samples (Himle et al, 2017; Peris et al, 2012; Stewart et al, 2017). Although some researchers have found success in family-integrated treatment for adult OCD (Stewart et al, 2020), research on family functioning and treatment outcome in adult OCD overall remains sparse. The present findings highlight the substantial gap in incorporation of family intervention for adult OCD in clinical and research settings.…”
