“…The specificity has been reported to be 100 % . On the other hand, antibodies against blood group antigens A and B, which are present in approximately 10 % of sera from healthy blood donors, show a virtually identical pattern to pemphigus autoantibodies . By adding soluble A/B antigen or erythrocytes from an AB‐positive donor, such undesirable intercellular reactivity may be eliminated in most sera .…”

“…The use of commercially available BIOCHIP containing only the DSG1 and DSG3 substrate assay would assist in differentiating pemphigus from a non-specific blood group antibody pattern found on standard indirect immunofluorescence on primate oesophageal tissue. 19 Commercial neutralising antibodies have been inefficient in removing this non-specific staining, highlighting the importance of specific antibody testing to DSG1 and DSG3 when this staining pattern is noted on standard monkey oesophagus-based assays. The BIOCHIP also makes available the diagnostic test salt split skin which has not been routinely easily accessible in some parts of Australia.…”

“…Blood group antibodies have been shown to cross-react with antibodies associated with Sjogren syndrome and pemphigus vulgaris, causing false-positive tests for these conditions. 27,28 If O-negative blood type is a novel risk factor for false-positive rapid HIV tests, blood group antibodies may cross-react with the HIV antibodies of the diagnostic test.…”
