Ge lifl Ta ri hi/Re cei ved: 06.12.2012 Ka bul Ta ri hi/Ac cep ted: 05.03.2013 ÖzetTelevizyon düşmesi çocuklarda ciddi morbidite ve mortaliteye yol açmaktadır. Sıklıkla kafa travması ve bunun sonucunda kranyal sinir felçleri (en sık 6. ve 7. sinirler etkilenir) görülmektedir. Konservatif tedaviye yanıt vermeyen olgularda şaşılık cerrahisi yapılabilir. Ancak eşlik eden travmalar veya sistemik problemler ile tedavi sırasında yaşanan gecikmeler ağır ambliyopi ile sonuçlanabilmektedir. Literatürde televizyon düşmesi sonucu vücut ve kafa travmasının yanısıra çocuklarda görülen göz bulguları ile ilgili çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu konudaki deneyimlerimizi paylaşmak amacıyla kliniğimize üzerine televizyon düşmesi sonrasında gelişen göz bulguları ve kranyal sinir felçleri ile başvuran üç olgunun dosyaları geriye dönük olarak tarandı. Hastaların görme keskinlikleri, ön segment ve fundus bulguları ile kazaya neden olan televizyonun özellikleri (tüplü veya LCD, ekran boyutu, sehpa yüksekliği) kaydedildi. Head trauma is frequently seen, and cranial nerve palsies ( 6th and 7th nerves are more frequently affected) are associated with head trauma. Strabismus surgery can be performed in cases not resolving with conservative treatment, however, the delay in treatment related to associated traumas and systemic problems may result in amblyopia. There is no previous report in the literature about ocular findings accompanied by body and head trauma in children after television falls. In order to share our experience, we retrospectively evaluated the records of three patients that were admitted to our clinic with the history of TV-related injuries. The visual acuities of patients, anterior segment and fundus findings as well as the characteristics of the television (tube or LCD, size of the screen, height of the easel) were recorded. Obtained findings revealed that fall from a height was the leading cause of death among unnatural deaths in children younger than 5 years. Domestic accident was found to be a significant risk factor in childhood deaths. Traffic fatalities were among leading causes of death in childhood in our country, likewise in all around the world. Children were found to be more vulnerable to traumas when they start to move around with incomplete motor skills. Therefore, education of parents in terms of child supervision and installing safety precautions toward preschool children will be helpful in preventing such injuries. On the contrary to some findings in the literature, more severe lesions were also prominent even in case of short-range falls from a height.
